I was excited to be invited to join one of Caroline’s lunch time “Refresh Yourself at a Mind-Body Wellness Workouts” in Moorgate. As a Yoga and Pilates buff, the key words screamed out at me. I thought … what a great way to spend my lunch break. Any excuse to exercise and I’m there!!
I arrived a little early and was greeted by the most lovely, bubbly girl who turned out to be Caroline, our teacher. It was good vibes from the get go – the perfect start to a workout!
We walked into a bright room with a disco ball hanging from the ceiling and, to my surprise, Caroline introduced the session as a dance class. There I was expecting a few sun salutations and pilates stretches later, that I’d be ready to sit back at my desk with unhunched shoulders – it is called a “Refreshing Mind-Body Wellness Workout” after all. Oh how wrong I was.
The class was divided into 10 tracks, each from a totally different music genre with matching exercises and choreography. Every track was great… this girl’s got super taste in music! From Hip Hop drop squatting, to rock music shake outs, to jazz stretches, this class was truly a creative showcase!
We ended with a beautiful Shavasana, forgetting all the different styles of dance we had just participated in and just letting our bodies and minds settle.
I returned to work after one hour feeling absolutely blissful. Who would have thought that 50 Cent mixed with Nina Simone would leave you feeling utterly refreshed and ready to get back to work? It was truly the most unique work out I’ve ever been to and I broke a sweat – thumbs up all round!
Lunch time workouts will never be the same… although maybe don’t tell your boss you’ve been dropping it like its hot 😉
