How to Make a Living Doing What you Love

Nimrod Gabriel January 7, 2016 7:51 pm One Comment

Congratulations! You’ve made it this far, which means that you’re probably a functioning adult human who has found a way to pay for your monthly rent and teabags. That’s great. It’s bleak out there, kid; gainful employment in any capacity is – generally speaking – a Good Thing.

It doesn’t always feel that way, though, does it? There can often exist a depressing divide between the things that we do for love and the things we do to live. Maybe you’re hunched over a laptop in a tech startup when you’d rather be teaching kids to kayak. Perhaps you spend your work day hashing out business deals and dreaming about taking pictures of rabbits in hats. In short: it can be rare that the combatant worlds of our passions and our purses intersect, but at Funzing we want to change all that. We think that it’s possible to make money from the thing you love – here’s how!

We decided to give you some tips from Funzing.com.

What are you good at?

Before you figure out how to get paid for it, you should sit down and figure out what exactly your passion might be. What is it that makes you squeal like Ru Paul in a weave emporium? What makes you feel like you’ve tapped into the very essence of what it means to be you?

Chances are, if you’re passionate about something, you’ll probably know quite a bit about it, and it’s that specialist knowledge and skill-set that sets you apart from everybody else. It’s what makes you different, indispensable and, to put it in layman’s terms: worth paying! Try to work out what you can offer that nobody else can, or if other people are offering it, how you can present it in a different way.

That’s great. But how can I turn that into cash money?

Ok, so we’re a bit biased. But using a service like Funzing is actually a pretty clever way of making a profit from something that already comes naturally to you. As a host, you’ll be able to set up your own event and offer tickets to people looking for something special to do with their free time. You can even host in the comfort of your own kitchen!

Whatever your personal talent–cooking, dancing, animal photography, purse-making, you name it–using Funzing’s service is a great way to show it off to the world, turning your personal passion into profit and forming connections with a curious, like-minded audience. You can host your events free of charge, too, so there’s no risk involved. Sounds good, right? Find out how to become a host here.

The internet is amazing. So use it.

We are existing within the perimeters of an astonishingly privileged period of history, technologically speaking. So utilise it. With an entire world of potential connection at our literal fingertips, our passions are able to conduct a life of their own online, with potentially lucrative benefits if we’re willing to reach out and market our own ‘brand’ with sincerity and passion. Chances are, if you love something, other people probably will too – and the internet gives you the chance to get out there, find your audience, and make them listen to what you have to say.

Take the plunge

Yes, it would be unwise to go out and quit your day job tomorrow – but it’s never too late to start layering the building blocks of a more authentic life. That could be starting a night course after work that will eventually lead to a life-changing qualification. Or, if you’ve always secretly wanted to be a writer, why not start writing pieces for willing publications for free, building up a list of clients and learning about the industry?

In the meantime, why not use Funzing to introduce your passion to some nice people and make a bit of extra money in the process?!
