LDN Talks | Quit Your Job & Follow Your Dreams
What happens when you quit your job to follow your dreams?
We’ve all thought about it. Throwing in the towel. Giving your boss the finger. Quitting to start a business; become a globe-trotter; work for a non-profit, or just laze on a beach. But is it possible? Or just a pipe-dream?
Come and hear from four ex-employees who took the plunge. What are they doing now? How did it work out? Can you do it too – and if so, how?? What about your mortgage? Family? Relationships? Career?
Expect some wild journeys, actionable insights, flowing beers – and leave knowing how you could find fulfilling work and meaning in your career as well.
You’ll not only hear from people just like you who made a change to find fulfilment, but you can learn how they did it, the methods they used, what they wouldn’t do again and exact steps you can take to begin the journey.
How to Remove Negative Memories
Is a real-life Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actually possible? Can you really erase your past to have a better present and future? Can you go as far as altering your identity by changing your memories?
If we are the sum total of our experiences then our memory defines us. What if we were able to change or even remove our past memories, what impact would that have on our present state of mind? Can we really move on before we deal with past? Most people ruminate on the past, but this doesn’t help. There are far more effective ways of dealing with this now.
Where most therapy is considered to be “talking or understanding”, Matt takes a very different approach. Instead of talking about the problems he works with his clients to eliminate the troublesome memories that are causing anxiety, depression and other issues in the present. By fusing together different NLP, hypnotherapy and IEMT techniques he is able to help people get mental space and clarity.

Award-winning comedian, writer and broadcaster Rosie Wilby presents some of the surprising results of a survey she conducted for research for an Edinburgh Fringe show, Is Monogamy Dead?, which eventually became her first book. She reveals how diverse our definitions of infidelity are and introduces ideas around emotional monogamy, suggesting that we’re all a bit more polyamorous than we admit. She calls for more language, such as the term ‘love affair friendship’, to describe the huge variety of connections that we experience and looks at the insights we gain about male and female behaviours by observing lesbians and gay men.
Join us for a fascinating & topical no-holds-barred talk with North Korean defector Jihyun Park, and leading Human Rights activist Michael Glendinning…
While headlines across the world focus on nuclear proliferation in North Korea, 120,000 North Koreans are currently detained in the most appalling conditions in gulags, thousands are being exploited in forced labour conditions across the world for profit for the North Korean state, and millions across the country have their rights to freedom of thought, conscience, religion, association, movement, and opinion heavily violated.
Our talk will help to shed some light on what North Korea really is, and what day to day life it is like for someone that lives there.
The science of psychedelics and exceptional human experience
The traditional use of psychoactive plants and fungi for spiritual and shamanic rituals has occurred for thousands of years, whereas the Western scientific research of these substances has only been explored in the last 100 years, and prohibition stalled the last 50 years of this.
Now that scientific research is resuming, what do psychedelics tell us about the weirder side of human consciousness, and what can be learned from the traditional shamanic practices with these substances?
Dr David Luke is Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Greenwich where he teaches an undergraduate course on the Psychology of Exceptional Human Experience.
His research focuses on trans-personal experiences, anomalous phenomena and altered states of consciousness, especially via psychedelics, having published more than 100 academic papers in this area, including five books, most recently Neurotransmissions: Essays on Psychedelics (2015) and Talking with the Spirits: Ethnographies from Between the Worlds (2014).
He has studied techniques of consciousness alteration from South America to India, from the perspective of scientists, shamans and Shivaites, but increasingly has more questions than answers.
