The countdown is officially on, Dry January warriors! Today marks 11 days until the end of your self-administered alcohol-free purgatory. Struggling? Here are a few ways to enjoy the next few weeks without falling prey to the call of the demon drink. You’re doing brilliantly. See you on the other side for a large glass of literally anything.
Move
Run, skip, jump, dance, whatever it takes – everyone knows that when you’ve been for a seven-mile run, the last thing you want is a G&T. Right? RIGHT? Running in the cold sound too awful? There are a dizzying array of weird and wonderful ways to keep fit these days, so you’ve really no excuse; try hula hooping, salsa classes, high energy trampolining or Beyonce dance classes!
Eat
Just because you’ve forsaken all plonk-related activity, doesn’t mean that all sensory pleasures are off limits. Over the next few weeks, food is your friend. However, boring isn’t going to cut the mustard; tastebud-teasing treats like sushi-making classes, an Italian supper club or a baking workshop should keep your mind on the prize. The prize being, well, sobriety. Doesn’t sound as exciting when you put it like that, does it?
Learn
Replace the fizzy fun of booze-fuelled nights out with something that might be genuinely useful or interesting. Always wanted to try making your own vegan chocolates, learning how to paint or compose the perfect bouquet? Without the looming shadow of a hangover, here’s your chance. Squeeze something in before February swaggers into the party with a bottle of Merlot in one hand and a naughty look in its eye.
Zen
So you’re eating like royalty, hula hooping like a boss and have acquired a new skill to drone on about when you’re firmly ensconced once more in vodka’s fickle embrace. Good for you! Now how’s your soul? Busy lives mean busy minds, so slow it all down with some candlelit meditation or a moonlight goddess gathering. Meditation can be great for focus, drive, energy and stress relief, so it’s probably worth a try, right?
