Stop right where you are! Put down the half-price box of Roses, errant child. Enough is enough! The saintly goddess that birthed, fed and raised you into the (probably) ok-ish person you are today deserves more than rubbish confectionary from the local garage. In fact, we suggest declining all traditional tropes of Mother’s Day and taking her for an unusual day out instead. Stuck for ideas? Oh, alright then – here are some of ours.
Two hours of murder
Voted into the Top Ten Best Mother’s Day Treats in London by Time Out Magazine, this tour promises to offer London’s best murder walk, featuring a bloodthirsty 17 murders, 21 locations and no less than 75 corpses over a one-mile walk through the streets of Soho! She’s already been through labour and dragging the likes of you up – we think she can probably handle a couple of grisly homicides.
A ‘Brew’tiful Mother’s Day
Show us a mum who doesn’t like a bit of tea and cake and we’ll…well, we’ll do nothing, that’s obviously fine. But if yours does, you could do worse than to treat her to Kyle and Kerran’s afternoon tea. As ‘tea and cake specialists’ (surely the best kind?), they’ll offer up incredible handmade desserts paired with individual loose leaf teas that complement their flavour. They’ll also talk you through all the different teas and desserts, some of which will include scones, chocolate fondant, elderflower marshmallows and macarons. We’re in.
Take her back to the 1920’s
…Joking, obviously. But if she is that old, we’re seriously impressed! This three-hour headpiece of necklace workshop has a Great Gatsby theme, offering up the expertise of Janie, a successful milliner whose pieces have been featured in Marie Claire, Elle and Vogue. You’ll get to choose from a jewellery box of pearls, crystals, beads and ribbons to create your own sparkling work of wearable art. All materials and tools are included – plus you’ll break for afternoon tea midway through.
A picture-perfect Mother’s Day
Give your mum the gift of creative fulfilment this Mother’s Day. You heard. This pop-up painting experience run by Gareth promises to guide you through the swirling colours of Monet’s Water Lillies, with a backdrop of great music, wine and food. You’ll get some great advice on the best techniques, all your art supplies, a glass of wine and some tasty food – sounds like a perfect Mother’s Day to us!
All the experiences above take place on Mother’s Day, but if you fancy giving her an experience gift later on in the year then we’ve got a few other tricks up our sleeve. Check them out here!
